Abstract

The Workers Assistance Center in Kittery has helped roughly a third of the 1,000 Portsmouth Naval Shipyard workers who have lost their jobs since 1991 retrain for new jobs. The center, a cooperative project run by the Maine Department of Labor and the New Hampshire Job Training Council, teaches skills assessment, personal marketing and how to determine if retraining is the right choice.
