Abstract

Recent announcements by Maine lumber exporters of large shipments of unfinished logs to China and Turkey have prompted a debate about the sale of Maine's lumber resources at a time when sawmills face a tight supply of logs. Maine sawmill operators argue that the state loses jobs when it ships raw, rather than finished, lumber overseas.
