Abstract

A 12-year partnership called Students of the 21st Century begun in 1989 between Southern Maine Technical College and South Portland schools has SMTC staff and students working with a group of fifth-graders, helping them to gain the self-confidence necessary to complete high school and go on to college. The fifth-graders will receive free tuition at the technical college any time after they graduate from high school in the year 2000.
