Abstract

The federal Base Closure Commission voted 6-0 to keep open the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in Kittery, saving more than 5,800 jobs and ending months of lobbying by Maine and New Hampshire to save the 193-year-old base. The shipyard employs 3,977 Mainers who earn a total of $144,520,175 annually. Related articles.
