Abstract

The Maine potato industry has estimated that 900 million pounds of potatoes were dumped this year because of poor quality, resulting in rotting, stinking piles of the tuber throughout Aroostook County. Heavy rainfall during the summer growing season and unusually warm weather during the fall harvest resulted in Maine's worst potato harvest in 30 years.
