Abstract

Gov. McKernan signed a $3.2 billion state budget Wednesday which essentially maintains the same level of spending as the last budget. Passage of the measure in the Legislature depended on keeping the 6 percent sales tax rate, which produces $165 million in revenues over the two years and salvaged enough programs to win the support of political moderates from both parties.
