Abstract

An independent audit of Central Maine Power Co. (CMP) done for the Public Utilities Commission by Shumaker & Co. of Ann Arbor, Mich., shows that the utility could save as much as $17.5 million if it closed some service centers, consolidated its telephone centers and upgraded its computer system. The audit, which cost $242,000, could be used by opponents of CMP's recent rate-hike request to show that the company should do more to save money, rather than hiking rates.
