Abstract

South Portland officials are pleased with the way their transfer station has been operating, especially with the fact that it has been a relatively inexpensive facility to run. Most of the materials that used to be buried at the old landfill are now being recycled, and the cost to taxpayers is considerably less than the cost projected for the now-defunct Regional Waste Systems recycling center and landfill in Gorham.
