Abstract

The recent sale of 247,000 acres of timberland in northern New England by James River Corp. of Richmond, Va., to Hancock Timber Resources Group includes the 32,000-acre Katahdin Iron Works Forest, which environmentalists had hoped would become public land. The land is adjacent to Gulf Hagas, Baxter State Parker and the Appalachian Trail. Details.
