Abstract

George L. Jacobson Jr., a professor of botany at the Institute for Quaternary Studies at the University of Maine in Orono, recently pulled a 61-foot core sample of sediment from the bottom of a lake in Florida. The tube contained 50,000 years of pollen grains, and will help Jacobson and his colleagues decipher the climatic history of Eastern North America. Details.
