Abstract

Gov. John R. McKernan hopes to introduce legislation in the upcoming special session of the Legislature that would change the state's tax increment financing law. The changes are needed to allow four Maine communities to compete for one of the new federal finance centers that would bring a minimum of 4,000 new jobs. The host city must provide the office space for the center for 20 years, a cost projected at about $100 million.
