Article about Francis William Pettygrove of Baileyville and Portland, who co-founded Portland, Oregon, in 1844 with Asa Lovejoy of Boston. Pettygrove won a coin toss which resulted in giving the name Portland to the clearing on the bank of the Willamette River in Oregon.
