Abstract

Portland is seeking a federal grant of $1.3 million to test homes for lead paint, part of a nationwide, $90 million federal grant program to combat the problem. Between 20 and 30 percent of the children screened by the city for lead poisoning each year are found to have potentially threatening levels in their blood. Details.
