Abstract

James J. McLaughlin, organizer of the new Springvale College and chairman of its board of trustees, has been invited by the chairman of Sanford's selectmen, to explain what the college plans for the community. Created after the collapse of Nasson College, which went bankrupt in 1982 and recently lost its charter and its right to grant degrees, the new college exists only on paper and is now seeking a charter from the legislature. It hopes to offer traditional and non-traditional courses. Edward Mattar III currently owns the Nasson College name and most of the buildings on the former Nasson College campus.
