Abstract

Independent assessor John E. Sylvester Jr., hired by Bath Iron Works to determine the worth of their Bath facilities, testified that the shipyard was worth just $55 million in 1991, compared to the $211 million assessment of Bath Assessor Michael Austin. Sylvester was called as BIW's last witness in the shipbuilder's lengthy tax appeal hearing against the town. Details.
