Abstract

A policy in Newport which forbids the town's police force from responding to calls or emergencies outside the town limits has divided selectmen and residents in the Penobscot County community. The controversial policy has already resulted in the resignation of one Newport police officer, who quit the force after being suspended from duty because he responded to a call for backup from an officer in a nearby town.
