Abstract

Avondale Industries Inc. of Louisiana was awarded six of the twelve contracts to build Sealift cargo ships for the U.S. Navy, increasing the pressure on Bath Iron Works to submit winning bids for the remaining six ships to be built. The Sealift contracts are regarded by BIW officials as representing the potential for the company's first foray into building commercial ships after an eight-year hiatus. Details
