Abstract

The Portland Downtown District, formerly the Downtown Improvement District, has decided to install eight speakers around Monument Square next week. The speakers will be used to play classical music, along with some country and western, to create an ambiance in the square that will attract shoppers. Business people hope that music that appeals to adults will also deter young people from hanging around the square.
