Abstract

Freeport officials expect the town to be fined by the Department of Environmental Protection because town workers illegally removed asbestos from an old building on Main Street that housed public works, fire department and rescue workers. Town Manager Dale Olmstead contends that the town made an honest mistake and did not intend to violate the laws regulating asbestos removal. Others have hinted that the laws were deliberately violated to save money.
