Abstract

Maine voters on November 2 will be asked to approve an interstate compact allowing the state's low-level nuclear waste producers to ship the waste to a dump to be built in the desert in west Texas. Voter approval of the compact would effectively end the search for a permanent dump-site in Maine, but environmental and anti-nuclear activists in both Maine and Texas are calling for defeat of the measure.
