Abstract

Unum Corp. on Monday reported that its earnings for the third quarter fell 3.6 percent, due to higher federal taxes. Without the $9.7 million charge against earnings the company took because of the higher taxes, it would have posted earnings of $81.8 million, or a 9.3 percent increase over the same quarter last year.
