Abstract

An alliance of six groups voiced their opposition to the proposed compact with Texas which would allow Maine's producers of low-level nuclear waste to store their waste in a dump in the west Texas desert. Opponents of the compact say the dump is being located in a poor, rural county where 70 percent of the residents are Hispanic, and have branded the proposal a form of environmental racism. Details.
