Abstract

J. Michael Orenduff, while president of the University of Maine in Farmington, capped enrollment, raised standards and cut courses to focus on quality programs. He saw the school named among the top 25 percent of liberal arts schools in the Northeast by U.S. News and World Report. Orenduff seems to be headed for confirmation as chancellor of the University of Maine System, and if that happens he will try to guide the system through continuing tight fiscal times. Details.
