Abstract

Maine voters passed the state term limits referendum by a 2-to-1 margin, meaning that legislators and the four top state officials will be limited to four consecutive two-year terms. The new law, which takes effect in 1996, will result in as many as 83 of the state's 186 legislators being barred from seeking re-election. Details, results by county, related articles.
