Chandler has ruled that state pension cuts approved in 1991 to save tens of millions of dollars are unconstitutional, but the state is expected to appeal the case to the Maine Supreme Judicial Court. The plan, which affects both the Maine State Employees Association and the Maine State Retirement System, would have saved the state between $25 million and $34 million for the two-year budget cycle that ends June 30.
