Abstract
The South Portland City Council has voted to discontinue the annual spring pickup of heavy household rubbish because of its high cost, but residents can still get rid of unwanted furniture and appliances by calling the city to collect them. The change is necessary because of the expense hauling the material to a landfill in Portland.
