Abstract
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency surface water treatment rule states that all water systems serving 25 or more people must start filtering the water to get rid of the parasites, viruses and bacteria that can make people ill. In Maine, 82 community water systems and 120 non-community systems are affected by the rule, and some are turning to novel ideas to implement it.
