Abstract

Former Secretary of State Edmund S. Muskie, who is currently chairman of the Maine Bar Foundation's Access to Justice Committee, says that legal services for the poor are jeopardized by shrinking taxpayer support. Private sources contributed $8.6 million for legal services between 1988 and 1992, while the state contributed $1.6 million.
