Abstract

The Legislature's committee on taxation heard from proponents of a plan to double the state's premium tax on alcoholic beverages to provide more money for substance abuse services. Representatives of the liquor industry had a warning for legislators about increasing liquor taxes, and said that Maine has the second-highest such taxes in the nation.
