Abstract

A decision by U. S. Census Bureau Director Barbara Bryant, to use the initial 1990 Census figures instead of the revised ones as the nation's official population will save Maine millions of dollars in federal grants. The revised figures favored southern and western states, and using them would have resulted in a larger share of the federal highway, social services, and other funds being allocated to those states.
