Cumberland Town Manager Robert Benson has appointed Sgt. Joseph Charron to replace Sgt. Mark Austin as acting police chief, saying he wants both men to have equal experience in the job and that his decision has nothing to do with Austin's handling of a situation involving fired police chief Leon Planche.
