Abstract

A bill pending in the Legislature's Transportation Committee would require mandatory seat belt use, and has surfaced in part because the federal government has threatened to divert transportation funds unless Maine mandates universal seat belt and helmet laws before October 1993. Maine stands to lose $665,000 in highway improvement funds if the law isn't enacted. Details.
