Abstract

The committee that advises the Maine Department of Transportation on how to spend federal money on transportation around Portland has recommended spending half the funds on non-traditional items such as buses, bicycle routes and sidewalk improvements. It was the first time the Portland Area Comprehensive Transportation Committee has recommended non-traditional items, and comes in the wake of Maine's Sensible Transportation Policy Act, passed in 1991. Details, including a list of recommendations.
