Abstract

Although final statistics are not yet complete, Maine's shrimp catch for the season is expected to total 3.5 million pounds, down almost 50 percent from last year's catch. The decline, the largest yearly drop since the 1970s, is attributed to bad weather, fewer shrimp in the ocean, and a season that was shortened to preserve the stock.
