Abstract

The general consensus at the State House in Augusta is that House Speaker John L. Martin committed no crimes in the recent ballot-tampering scandal and is therefore likely to keep his job. Maine Attorney General Michael E. Carpenter and U.S. Attorney Richard Cohen cleared Martin of wrongdoing in the scandal that saw Martin-aide Kenneth Allen plead guilty to burglary and tampering charges.
