Abstract

The Portland City Council voted 6-1 in favor of creating the Industry and Commerce Fund, a new low-interest loan program to attract businesses that will be administered by the Downtown Portland Corp. The first loan has been granted to Binax Inc. of South Portland, which will receive a $240,000 loan to move to a 70,000-square-foot building on Read Street that previously housed Ventrex Laboratories, which recently relocated to California.
