Abstract

Maine officials are prepared to suspend the search for a low-level nuclear waste site after a voice vote in the Texas House of Representatives gave tentative approval to a bill that would allow Maine to truck its waste to Texas. The bill must still be signed by Texas Gov. Ann Richards, after which the compact needs the approval of the Maine Legislature, Maine voters and the federal government.
