Abstract

The Maine Supreme Judicial Court ruled that Secretary of State G. William Diamond violated the First Amendment rights of Jasper Wyman by refusing to supply Wyman with petitions for his 1991 efforts to put gay-rights ordinances to a statewide vote. Diamond refused to supply the petitions because he claimed the attorney general had found the referendum unconstitutional.
