Abstract

Portland school superintendent Thomas Edwards, responding to criticism that two lesbians who spoke at Deering High's Diversity Day were promoting the gay lifestyle, said that his review of the matter indicates the two did not go too far when they described their sexuality. Some parents had complained that the workshop broke a promise by school officials that a gay-rights policy approved for Portland schools would not lead to programs promoting homosexuality.
