Abstract

Navy enrironmental engineers burned off the remains of the jet fuel that had leaked from holding tanks at Brunswick Naval Air Station into a marsh that fed into the Androscoggin River. The controlled fire, which targeted the 10,000 to 18,000 gallongs which engineers were unable to revover, was less damagaint to the marsh's ecosystem than other cleanup methods.
