Abstract

The Maine Supreme Judicial Court denied a request by convicted murderer Richard Uffelman for another trial on the grounds of ineffective counsel, improper jury instruction and delay of trial. The court said most of the delays were caused by Uffelman's request for an independent psychiatric examination, his motion for change of counsel and his move for a change of venue. Uffelman was convicted of the August 1989 slayings of Michael and Florence Phillips in Machiasport.
