Abstract
Maine's federal judges, like most of their counterparts across the country, have stopped scheduling civil jury trials after May 12 as a way to ration money paid to jurors to ensure sufficient funds for criminal trials through the end of the fiscal year. Budget constraints have made the move necessary , but the slowdown could be averted if Congress approves a proposed $7.5 million supplemental funding package for the federal courts.
