Abstract

Maine State Police handed over a two-page letter written by Confederate General Robert E. Lee to the police chief of Washington, Georgia, after the Washington-Wilkes Museum in that city claimed ownership of the document. Remember When Antiquities of Acton, Maine, had planned to auction the letter off before the museum raised its claim, setting the stage for a court battle over ownership.
