Article about Edie Hoffman, 26, an outspoken Portland lesbian and gay-rights activist who is at the center of controversy because of her participation in Deering High School's Diversity Day program, during which she told students what it is like being homosexual in a "straight" world. Some parents viewed her presence at the event as a promotion of homosexuality.
