Abstract

A review of Maine's state retirement system by the Sedgwick James Consulting Group of Philadelphia shows that the cost of the state's pension plan is high when compared with private-sector plans, but is similar to other public plans in the region. The review, requested by the Maine Chamber of Commerce and Industry, comes at a time when Gov. McKernan is trying to make deep cuts in the retirement system in an effort to balance the state budget.
