Abstract

U.S. Windpower Inc. of California has proposed creating the $200 million New England Wind Energy Station, a system of 761 wind-powered turbines on about 30 miles of remote ridge tops northwest of Stratton. If approved by Maine's Land Use Regulation Commission, the system when completed in 1998 could produce one-third as much energy as the Maine Yankee nuclear power plant. Details, related article.
