Abstract

Portland on Thursday blocked a request by the newly incorporated town of Long Island to become an associate member of Regional Waste Systems Inc. (RWS), but the island will be allowed to use the RWS incinerator at the $68 per ton commercial rate. RWS is a consortium of 31 cities and towns, of which 21 are corporate members and the rest are associate members. Related article.
