Abstract

District Court justice D. Brock Hornby has awarded nearly $18,000 to the owner of a Portland fishing boat that was damaged while it was at anchor and struck by another boat. The case is considered important because the anchored boat was found to be partially to blame for the accident because of its lighting arrangement. Normally, moving vessels are presumed to be totally at fault when they hit anchored vessels.
