Abstract

Portland's Burnham & Morrill Co. is attempting to convince the Massachusetts Department of Health that the beans produced by Bush Brothers Co. of Tennessee fail to meet the definition of "baked beans" and should not be sold as such. Bush beans are about 40 percent cheaper than B & M beans, which Burnham & Morrill officials say is attributable to B & M's more costly baking process.
