Abstract

Environmental Protection Agency sampling in the second half of 1992 has shown that tap water supplied by the Portland Water District and 818 other water systems around the country serving a total of 30 million people contains too much lead. The level recorded by the Portland Water District was as high as 54 parts per billion, and lead is considered a hazard when it exceeds 15 parts per billion.
